Sheep Skins

Long time no blog, but January is a pretty slow time on the plot. We are now just down to our breeding stock and a few young rabbits. The geese are still laying, so we have separated them off and hope to make them broody in the next few weeks.

Hen egg production is great again.

Today I moved the sheep skin processing foward a bit. The skins had sat in the alum, salt mixture for three weeks, so I removed them and hosed them down to get rid of excess chemicals.

Then I put them in the washing machine through a wool cycle. They are now hanging in one of my out buildings. They currently look great. I have combed the hair with a plastic curry comb and the wool is looking good. Fingers crossed for success once they have dried.
